Objectives:
Since 1903 the GEBCO Project has been collecting bathymetric data and mapping the Earth's oceans. GEBCO is an IHO and IOC joint Project that relies largely on the voluntary efforts of an international collaborating community of scientists and hydrographers with the support of their parent organizations.
The Joint IHO-IOC Guiding Committee for the General Bathymetric Chart of Oceans (GEBCO) guides the GEBCO project and makes recommendations to the two parent organizations on the policy to be followed for the preparation and dissemination of the world series of contoured charts of the ocean floor and the "GEBCO Digital Atlas". |
Objectifs:
Depuis 1903, le projet GEBCO assure la collecte des données bathymétriques et la cartographie des océans du globe. La GEBCO est un projet conjoint OHI/COI qui repose en grande partie sur les efforts spontanés d'une communauté internationale de scientifiques et d'hydrographes soutenue par leurs organisations mères.
Le Comité directeur mixte OHI-COI de la carte générale bathymétrique des océans (GEBCO) dirige le projet GEBCO et fait des recommandations aux deux organisations mères sur la politique à suivre en matière de préparation et de diffusion de cette série mondiale de cartes en courbes de niveau du fond océanique ainsi que de l'"Atlas numérique de la GEBCO" .
