Capacity Building - Concept

With respect to the IHO, Capacity Building is defined as the process by which the Organization assesses and assists in sustainable development and improvement of the States, to meet the objectives of the IHO and the obligations and recommendations related to hydrography, charting and maritime safety  described in SOLAS Chapter V, UNCLOS and other international instruments.

Renforcement des capacités - concept

En ce qui concerne l'OHI, le renforcement des capacités est défini en tant que processus permettant à l'Organisation d'évaluer et de contribuer au développement durable et à l'amélioration des Etats afin de répondre aux objectifs de l'OHI ainsi qu'aux obligations et aux recommandations en matière d'hydrographie, de cartographie et de sécurité maritime décrites dans le chapitre V de la convention SOLAS, la CNUDM et d'autres instruments internationaux.

Capacity Building - Strategy

Capacity building is a vital component of the efforts of intergovernmental technical organizations to support the development goals of the United Nations (UN). The IHO is committed to matching its efforts to those of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and other organizations working in allied fields.
The IHO Capacity Building Sub-Committee was established to co-ordinate these efforts, and its members have developed a strategy paper establishing the strategic principles, the phases of development of hydrographic surveying and nautical charting capability and other important parameters.

Stratégie pour le renforcement des capacités

Le renforcement des capacités est une composante essentielle des efforts des organisations techniques intergouvernementales en vue de soutenir les objectifs de développement des Nations Unies (UN). L´OHI s´est engagée à associer ses efforts à ceux de l´Organisation maritime internationale (OMI), de la Commission océanographique intergouvernementale (COI), de l´Association internationale de signalisation maritime (AISM), de la Fédération internationale des géomètres (FIG) et des autres organisations travaillant dans des domaines associés.
Le Sous-comité de l´OHI sur le renforcement des capacités a été établi aux fins de coordonner ces efforts et ses membres ont rédigé un document stratégique établissant les principes stratégiques, les phases de développement des capacités en matière de levés hydrographiques et de cartographie marine ainsi que d´autres paramètres importants.
